Heath, Texas Mrs. Johanne Mosvold Glastad died on October 15, 2017 in Rockwall, Texas, She was born to Anna and Jakob Nilsen on June 3, 1919. She was the youngest of four children.
During WW2, she remembered the German occupation in Norway and told us she was rude to the soldiers in Farsund, but her mom said she needed to be kind to them and often even gave them something to drink and eat.
As an adult Johanne and her best friend, Ruth, had a millinery store in Farsund, making one of a kind hats. During that time hats were an important fashion accessory. They also stitched embroidery which they sold.
Johanne fell in love with a young man who was a traveling Evangelist, Hilberg Meberg. After only 2 years of marriage, he died from kidney failure. In 1952, a year after the death of her husband, a cousin sent her to visit her sister who lived in Staten Island, NY. She spoke no English but learned from her sister’s family enough to get by. Eventually she moved to Brooklyn, took night courses in English, and worked in the Norwegian Christian Home for the Aged. Returning to Norway for a year, she was introduced to Bruce Glastad, a 9 year old son of Karl Glastad, a widower, who loved her dearly and asked her to marry his dad. Fast forward, Johanne and Karl Glastad were married on December 29, 1958. Their first date was to a Billy Graham Rally. She became a mother instantly to Joyce and Bruce, her new husband’s children. They had a son, Karl Andrew, who became the joy of all our lives. We now, were a complete family. Johanne and Karl often said to each other how lucky they were to fall in love the second time and would share this with many friends and family.
Johanne loved her Lord and Savior, and loved being in the House of the Lord. She loved her family. She was an amazing cook and home maker, spoiling everyone with their favorite foods. Her table settings and food presentation could have been in Better Homes and Gardens. Her handwork was beautiful. She could put a positive spin on unique situations.
Johanne is predecessed by Karl (husband), Karl Andrew (son), and Bruce (son). She is survived by Joyce (daughter) and Allison (daughter-in-law); Grandchildren: Mark, Sonja, Andrew, Karl Michael, Kristin, Jacob and Luke; Great grandchildren: Jacob, Danielle, Katelyn, Sivert and Sibylla.
We are so thankful to God for the gift of her life which He gave to our family. See you in Heaven, Mom. You are now safe in the arms of Jesus for all eternity!
