James A Egbert

Mt. Arlington, NJ. Mr. James A. Egbert, 77 died on April 27, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Jersey City, NJ on August 18, 1942, lived in Harrison NJ, Whippany NJ, and Southport NC before moving back to be with their children and grandchildren to Mt. Arlington 6 years ago. He served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War as a Medic. He began his professional career as a firefighter with the Harrison Fire Department. From there, he was promoted to Captain where he served this department for 17 years. In 1984, he became Fire Chief of the Morristown Fire Department where he served for the remainder of his career.

He is survived by his wife Sandra D (DeCoster) Egbert of 48 years and by his children; James (and wife Christine) and Tracy Ehrich (and husband Keith). He was the proud and loving grandfather to Hailey, James, Maddie, Liliana and Corinne.

He was a much loved brother of Carol Kielbus and her husband Robert, the late Claire Egbert, Joan Lowery, Lorraine Maguire, Marilyn Leister, Dorothy Murray and Bruce Egbert.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to James’s favorite foundation Tunnels to Towers. There will be a small family memorial held at a later date at the Restland Memorial Cemetery in East Hanover.
