Charles W. Frost passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 in Marco Island, FL at the age of 91. Charles was born to Frank and Dora Frost in 1927 in Morristown, NJ. He loved sharing stories of his childhood adventures around Morristown. He graduated from Morristown High School and returned often for his reunions.
Charles was in the Navy during WWII. Following his return home from naval service, he went to college and began work as a teller at Morris County Savings Bank. Good with both people and numbers, Charles rose through the ranks to ultimately become the President of Morris County Savings Bank, a position he held until his retirement. As president, Charles was instrumental in the bank’s conversion from mutual form to stock form and then the merger with First Fidelity Bank (now Wells Fargo).
While at the bank, Charles also met his future wife Barbara Jenkins of Mine Hill, NJ. They lived many years in a lakefront home on Lake Hopatcong, spending much time with their extended family. Charles was also an avid hunter, loved his time with friends at the Indian Ladder Hunting Club in Dingmans Ferry, PA, and took special pride in his beloved bird dog, Chico.
Charles and Barbara later moved to Brookside, NJ where Charles became an early and long-time member of Mendham Golf and Tennis Club. He had wonderful times with his pals playing golf. He took pride in the beauty of the course, its surrounding wildlife, its special bird conservation program, and sometimes even his golf game. He enjoyed spending time with friends and neighbors, as well as attending the Brookside 4th of July parade and festivities.
After retirement, Charles and Barbara split their time between Brookside, NJ and Marco Island, FL, ultimately moving to Marco Island full time. Charles became an active member of The Prince Condo Association as President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary, as well as Chief Lifeguard, paperboy, and hurricane escapee. In every manner, Charles served with great capability and integrity, volunteering countless hours and ensuring all found great pleasure there. He was a co-founder of the condo’s must-attend 4th of July BBQ event, a carefree dancer at condo socials, and a wizard at the dog track.
Known to many as Charlie, he was a loyal friend, quick to laugh, ready to socialize, joyful in the success of others, generous, great neighbor, mentor, father-figure, family, wildlife advocate, and good man. He will be missed by many.
Charles is predeceased by his wife Barbara, his parents Frank and Dora, and his brother Frank. He is survived by his sister Margaret Flood, his niece Carol Flood, and his nephews Wesley Flood and Paul Frost. Visitation may be made at Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home (davishepplewhitefh.com) in Succasunna, NJ on Thursday, September 5th from 5-7pm. A graveside service will be held at Hilltop Cemetery (hilltopcemetery.com) in Mendham, NJ on Friday, September 6th at 11:30am.
