Sylvia V Morodan

Roxbury Twp.,  Mrs. Sylvia V Morodan, 74, passed away on July 20, 2020 at St. Clare’s Hospital in Dover. She was born in Morristown and grew up in Kenvil, before moving to Succasunna 50 years ago.

Sylvia was one-of-a-kind. Her smile lit the room, her warmth made you feel welcome, and signature red lipstick and luxe lashes revealed her glamour. It was hard to leave Sylvia’s house without a full belly and a to-go container of her famous meatballs or eggplant parm.

Sylvia was married to Joe (Joseph R Morodan), the love of her life for 50 years. He called her “Lucy” when she did things like put too much soap in the washing machine or dump grease from a frying pan of zeppoles down the toilet. Other than that, they claim to have never had a fight.

She was a selfless and caring mother who taught her girls to love unconditionally, make a perfect bed and to never stay mad. She was proud of her children, but, oh, those grand babies! Sylvia spent her last ten years as a grandmother. First to Riley, who called her Grandma Jersey; next to twins Hailey and Chloe, who she lovingly renamed “Lulu and Lala”.

Aunt Sylvia was loved by her nieces and nephews who grew up always knowing they were welcome to stay for dinner, the night or however long they needed. She treated them like her own, and they cherished her for it.

Sylvia graduated Joseph Paterno’s Beauty School top of her class and was a professional hairdresser in Succasunna for many years. Her clients came for a set and comb, but stayed for the conversation.

She is survived by her husband and by her two daughters; Nicole (and Rich) Fachet of New Providence, NJ, and Jennifer (and Avery) Kowalski of Wallingford, CT. She also leaves her three grandchildren; Riley Kowalski, Hailey Fachet and Chloe Fachet, brother Gregory (and Lisa) Colananni and his children Gregory and Talia Colananni, two sisters; Linda Palumbo and Antoinette Smith and her children Scott (and Lucie) Smith and Michelle (and Eric) Fowler, great nephews Anthony and Bailey Smith, Stephen and Nicholas Fowler; great niece Sierra Smith. She joins her loving parents Carmela and Gregory Colananni in heaven.

A private memorial service and mass will be held at St. Therese Church,151 Main St, Succasunna, NJ on Thursday, July 23, 2020. In honor of Sylvia, please donate to your local food bank.
