Rose Wente

Roxbury Township, Mrs. Rose Wente, 95 died on February 5, 2013 at the Regency Grande Nursing Center in Dover. She was born and raised in Irvington and attended the Essex County Vocational School, Essex County Jr. College, and Fairleigh Dickenson University. She then lived in Chester for 23 years before moving to Succasunna 20 years ago. She was a bookkeeper at the County College of Morris in Randolph for 12 years, and previously worked at the Multiple Sclerosis Nursing Home in Chester (now Kessler Institute). She began her working career at Toporista Importing Company Inc. in Newark where she worked for 29 years. She was a member of the Hillside Lutheran Brethren Church in Succasunna. For more then 50 years served on the board of directors as a member of the State ASPCA in New Brunswick. For 35 years she was very active with Girl Scouting and served on their Board, was a founder of the Volunteer Program at the Welkind Hospital in Chester, was a riding instructor for the Irvington Mounted Troop for girls for 15 years, and was a volunteer hostess for the USO during WWII, where she met her future husband Charles.

 She was predeceased by her husband Charles E. Wente, Sr. in 1991. She is survived by her son Charles E. (and Maryellen) Wente, Jr. of Succasunna, daughter Carol Smith of Medford, 2 granddaughters; Erin (and Marc) Kickenweitz of Lake Shawnee and Allison Wente of Austin TX, sister-in-law Rosemary Johnson of PA, and many nieces and nephews.

 Friends may visit at the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Succasunna  973-584-7264 (davishepplewhitefh.com) on Thursday from 4 – 7 pm. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, 11 am, at the funeral home, with a private interment to follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Chester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Girl Scouts of Northern NJ, 300 Forest Ave, Paramus, NJ or to the Compassionate Care Hospice, 350 Sparta Ave, Sparta, NJ.
