Philip G. Minneci

Philip G. Minneci

Philip G. Minneci, 71, passed away on August 19, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Englewood, New Jersey on April 19, 1952, son of the late Sam and Anna Minneci (Ambrosio). Phil lived with his mother’s family in Fairview before moving to Newark. In Newark, he attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic School until his family moved to Millburn in the third grade. Phil graduated Millburn High School in his hometown which he loved.  He then attended Newark College of Engineering.

Phil and his devoted wife Gail were married in Summit at St. Teresa of Avila Church and settled in Succasunna, NJ. Phil was the definition of a family man throughout his life and enjoyed mentoring his children and spending time with his grandchildren.

Phil was a retired 46 year Union electrician with the IBEW Locals 102 and 581 in Parsippany. He was a licensed NJ State Electrical Contractor and Inspector. During his career in the electrical construction industry he was in charge of many large scale complex electrical installations. He held elected positions within the IBEW, having served on the Executive Board, Holding Company, and as Treasurer of Local 581. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Local 102 Federal Credit Union. He was an instructor in the IBEW Apprentice program and was certified by the State of New Jersey to teach changes in the National Electrical Code for electrical contractors to maintain their licenses. Although retired, he continued to mentor and advise younger Electricians, Contractors, and Licensed Electrical Design Engineers.

Phil’s love for engineering began at a young age playing with model trains and building go-karts. It continued as Philip built and raced a Chevelle and Camaro at Raceway Park. He was an automobile enthusiast, attending many local cruise nights and car shows. Phil had a lifelong love for music, and enjoyed various concerts large and small. Everywhere Phil went, there was someone he knew, and good conversation and anecdotes always followed those happenstance gatherings.

Phil was a master craftsman. He enjoyed major home renovation projects at his own and children’s homes, be it carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, or, his specialty, electrical. He was always available to advise others on their own projects.

Phil is survived by his loving wife Gail Minneci (Ruhl), his three children Christopher Minneci (Jessica Minneci), Laura Oliynik (Matthew Oliynik), and Megan Flohs (Greg Flohs), and his sister Joan Minneci.  He was fortunate to have grandchildren who he loved very much: Avery, Jeremy, Sara, Kelsey, Morgan and Leighton. He is also survived by a loving extended family of close friends, relatives, and many cousins.
