Roxbury Township, Mrs. Lois M. McMahon passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2018 in Succasunna, New Jersey just short of her 87th birthday. Lois was born in West Orange, New Jersey in 1931, the daughter of the late Marshall P. and Margaret H. Boggio. She grew up on Wellington Avenue in West Orange and lived most of her adult life in Succasunna, New Jersey, where she and her late husband, John, raised their family.
Lois graduated from nursing school then worked as a hospital nurse. In 1954, Lois married John F. McMahon, her husband for 63 years until his death earlier this year. She paused her nursing career while raising three sons to whom she was a devoted mother. She later returned to nursing as the school nurse at Kennedy Elementary School in Roxbury Township where she lovingly served for more than 20 years until she retired. Lois will be greatly missed and remembered for her tireless support and encouragement to her family, a life lived in service to those around her, being a wonderful cook, her annual Christmas cookie baking extravaganza and her always patient, slow to anger, never complaining, and caring character.
She is survived by her three sons – Brian of Succasunna, New Jersey, John M. (wife Annette) of Netcong, New Jersey and Thomas (wife Kristin) of Coopersburg, Pennsylvania. She is the grandmother to five grandchildren – David, Joseph, Sarah, Danielle, and Lauren. She was preceded in death by her husband John F. McMahon and her brother Marshall R. Boggio (wife Shirley) of Point Pleasant, New Jersey.
Arrangements are by the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Succasunna, New Jersey 973-584-7264 (davishepplewhitefh.com). Plans are being made to gather family and friends at a future date to celebrate the life of Lois and the life of her husband John, who passed away in February.
