Leonard W Berry

Mr. Leonard William Berry, 87, died on September 30, 2023, at home. He was born and raised in Morganton, N.C. and lived in Morristown before moving to Kenvil, 22 years ago. He was a retired manager and insurance agent for Prudential Insurance Company in Newark. Following his retirement, he became an award-winning golfer and assistant superintendent at the Flanders Valley Golf Course. He was famous for being the first black golfer to win a championship in Morris County and played at many golf courses, including every course in New Jersey. He enjoyed time with his family, Western films, and sports, especially golf.
       He is survived by his wife Vilma Berry, of 51 years, and by his children, grandchildren, cousins, and a host of nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his sister Joan Saner and brother, William Jackie Pearson.
       Friends may visit at the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Succasunna, NJ 07876 on Friday, October 6th. The viewing will be from 9 – 10 AM. The funeral service will be held at 10 AM, followed by the entombment at the Restland Memorial Park Cemetery, 77 Deforest Avenue, East Hanover, NJ 07936
