Roxbury Township, Mrs. Joy W. Vavrek, 85, died on December 21, 2020 at the Kindred Care Center in Dover. She was born in Boise. Idaho and lived in many states before moving to Succasunna 60 years ago. She earned her Master’s Degree in East Asian Studies from Seton Hall University, and was a teacher, reporter, and more recently was an Administrating Officer in Bernardsville Boro NJ. For many years she was the Sr. Editor of the Star Journal and a member of the Holy Wisdom Byzantine Orthodox Church in Flanders.

She is survived by her husband Michael Vavrek, Jr. of 63 years, and by her children, Michael Thaddeus, Paul Andrew, and Mary Veronica. Also, her two grandchildren, Christopher and Obra. She was predeceased by her parents Arne and Buelah (Petty) Waara and her brother Fredrick.

Arrangements are by the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Succasunna, NJ 973-584-7264 (davishepplewhitefh.com) The Private Service will be held Monday, December 28^th, with the burial at the Succasunna Presbyterian Cemetery. A Memorial Service for the public will be held at a later date.
