Roxbury Township, James Robert Cater, Sr., died on March 9, 2018 at St. Clare’s Hospital in Dover. He was born in Dover and lived most of his life in Succasunna. He was a 1962 graduate of Roxbury High School and worked for Roxbury Township for 30 years where he retired as the Building & Ground’s supervisor. He previously worked as a carpenter for his Uncle, Donald Parks in Randolph. He was an exempt and life member of the Roxbury Township Fire Company #1 in Succasunna. He enjoyed being at his cabin in PA, visits from family and his friend’s. Watching the NASCAR races and he loved his dog Sweet Pea.
He was predeceased by his wife Helen (Laidlaw) Cater in 2007, and is survived by his daughter Lisa Ann (and James) Benfield of Landing and son James Robert Jr. (and Sharon) Cater of Succasunna, and by his 4 grandchildren; Daniel Benfield, Nicholas Benfield, Anthony Benfield, and Richard Akes.
Friends may visit at the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Succasunna 973-584-7264 (davishepplewhitefh.com) on Tuesday from 3 – 5 & 7 – 9 pm. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, 11 am at the Funeral Home, followed by a reception at the Fire House on Main Street.
