Roxbury Township, George Panula, 86, died on April 4, 2019 at the Morristown Medical Center. He was born in the Bronx, NY and grew up in Manhattan, NY, moving to Succasunna in 1970. He served in the U S Navy during the Korean War, from 1952-1956. He was a graduate of the American Institute of Banking, and then of New York University business college. He worked as an International Banker at J P Morgan Chase Bank at 5 New York Plaza in New York City for 38 years before retiring in 1991. He was an active member of St Therese R C Church in Succasunna, the St. Therese Knights of Columbus, and served on the Church Building Committee and served as an Eucharistic Minister.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gwendolyn Burrows Panula, and by his daughters; Kathleen (and Ronald Leo) Hockey of Albuquerque, N M and Gwendolyn Ann (and Lee Edward) Miller of Ledgewood, 4 grandchildren; Andrew Christopher Hockey, Peter Alexander Hockey, Kristin Lynn Miller, and Dillon Christopher Miller. He also leaves his 2 sisters and 2 brothers; Mary Sloboda of Long Island, NY, Vera (and Bobby) Jurgeleit of Colorado Springs, Co, Michael (and Patricia) Panula of Lake Ariel, PA, and Edward Panula of New York City, NY, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit at the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Succasunna, NJ 973-584-7264 (davishepplewhitefh.com) on Wednesday, from 3-5 and 7-9 pm. The Funeral Liturgy will be held on Thursday, 9:30 am at St. Therese R C Church, with the interment to follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Chester.
