Catherine Frances Harnett

Stanhope, NJ. Mrs. Catherine “Kay” Frances Harnett, 85, died peacefully on January 19, 2022 at her home in the company of her family. She was born and raised in Jersey City and moved to Stanhope in 1962, where she and her late husband John raised their family in the home in which she said goodbye.

Kay was a retired school secretary and assistant to the principal for the Stanhope Public School. Kay was the most loving wife, mom and grandmother. She enjoyed traveling, including trips to Australia, Ireland and Canada, and dozens of family road trips all across America. When she wasn’t organizing these travel adventures, Kay’s favorite vacations were summers spent at Long Beach Island, together with her family in one big house.

Kay was happiest when she spent time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved all of their spouses as much as her own children. Kay made terrific memories with dinners, shows, shopping trips, weekend getaways and cruises with her cousin Cathy and lifelong friends Fran and Bethann. 

She was predeceased by her husband John H Harnett in 2016. She is survived by her 4 children; Mark (and Pamela) Harnett, Marie (and Mark) Gaug, Helen (and Daniel) Flaherty, and John (and Susanne) Harnett, her 9 grandchildren:Jacqueline (Michael), Elizabeth (Bradley), Stephen, David, Sean, Kevin (Laura), Aedan, Ian, and Katherine, and4great grandchildren: Thomas, Clara, John and Hayden.

 A Memorial Service will be held at the Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington in the spring.
