Roxbury Township, Mrs. Anna Serpa, 92, died peacefully on July 14, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Manhattan and lived a life of service. She was passionate about her work with Catholic Charities in the South Bronx. She was a bridge to the Hispanic community making visitations helping people connect with the services they needed. She was a member of the Federation of South Bronx Community Organization which was responsible for bringing the Head Start program to the South Bronx. Upon moving to Jersey City in 1971, and at the invitation of Archbishop Boland, she served on the Diocesan Committee for Human Development, the education action program of the Catholic Church. She again worked for Catholic Charities. She also served on the Child Placement Review Board of the Superior Court of New Jersey and she and her husband Raymond were foster parents. She was employed by the Trust Company of New Jersey at the end of her career. Mrs. Serpa moved to Ledgewood in 1989 and in 1990 she retired from the bank. She was a member of St. Therese Roman Catholic Church until 2021 when she became a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading and was very creative. She sewed, crocheted, and quilted by hand. She was very friendly and loving. All who met her fell in love with her instantly. She leaves that legacy of love as her mark on the world.?
She was predeceased by her husband Raymond Serpa in 2017, and is survived by her 3 children;?Jose Ramon (and Sharon) Serpa of Newburgh, NY, Rev. Dr. Debra Ann DeVos of Allamuchy, and Richard John (and Jill) Serpa of Landing. She also leaves her 4 grandchildren; Jason R. Serpa, Rachael M Stoeber (Andrew), Olivia R Serpa, and Raymond J Serpa, and her sisters, Iris, Maria, Olga, Doris, and Rosa as well as her brothers Alfonso and Arnaldo. ?
