Alice D. Grimes of Succasunna, NJ died unexpectedly on September 21, 2013 at Saint Clare’s Hospital in Dover, NJ.  Born in Hartford, CT, she lived her life in Wethersfield, CT, Glen Ridge, NJ, Lee, MA, Naples, FL and various New England homes.

After she and her late husband, Lawrence, raised their family in Glen Ridge, NJ, they retired to Otis (later Lee), MA and Naples, FL.  She lived in Brookfield, CT and later Greenfield, MA and Hinsdale, NH before moving to Succasunna, NJ this year.

Alice graduated from Saint Joseph College in West Hartford in 1948. In addition to being a homemaker, she worked as a legal secretary for several law firms in the Newark, NJ area.  She was passionate about her Roman Catholic faith, and also enjoyed sewing, braiding rugs, wandering tag sales, and telling stories.  She was quick with a smile when spending time with friends and family.

Alice is survived by eight children, Margaret Golden, Louise, Matthew Joseph and wife Nancy, Mary Findley and husband Michael, Amy Markley and husband Alex, Gerald and wife Margherita, Jane Tancrell and husband Paul, and Kristine.  Ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive, as well as numerous family and friends.  In addition to her husband of 50 years, Alice was predeceased by two sons, Cyril and Adrian, her brother, Harry Drolet, and her sister, Geraldine Spera.

Friends may call at the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main Street in Succasunna, NJ (973-854-7264; www.davishepplewhitefh.com) on Wednesday September 25 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM.  Additionally, calling hours will be held at the Roche Funeral Home in Lenox, MA on Friday, September 27 at 9:00 – 10:30, followed at 11:00am by the celebration of a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Mary’s Church in Lee, MA, and internment at nearby Saint Mary’s Cemetery.  Donations in her honor may be made to Catholic Charities.
