Netcong, Mr. Warren H Crater, Jr., 83, died on December 3, 2016 at his home. He was born in Dover and grew up in Randolph, and attended Dover High School. He then served in the National Guard from 1951 – 1955. He raised his family in Wharton before moving to Netcong in 1978. He retired in 1999 from the Weldon Asphalt Company in Rockaway where he worked for 31 years. His hobbies included hunting, gun collecting, stained glass, leather working, square dancing, bowling, golfing, horseshoes, darts, and believe it or not quilting.
He is survived by his wife MaryAnn (Carrell) of 64 years, and 5 children; Diane (and Marvin) Heiskanen of Hopatcong, Susan Helfrich of Hopatcong, Karen (and David) Boyle of Alva, FL, Scott Crater (and his fiancé Marc Paolella) of Succasunna, and JoAnn Matthias of Hopatcong. He also leaves his 8 grandchildren; Kelly, Kristin, Lauren, Kari, Meagan, Brian, Jeremy, and Dylan, and 6 great grandchildren; Morgan, Austin, Gage, Katelyn, Alexander, and Trenton. He also leaves his 2 brothers; Clyde Crater of Randolph and Donald Crater of Tucson, AZ and sister Joan Rogers of Spotswood, NJ, and close friends Ed Koehler, Kermit Albertson, and Bob Smith. He was recently predeceased by his great grandson Talon Matthias.
Friends may visit at the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Succasunna 973-584-7264 (davishepplewhitefh.com) on Friday from 6 – 9 pm. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at the Funeral Home at 11 am, with the interment to follow at the Millbrook Methodist Cemetery in Randolph. A repast will follow at the Mt. Arlington Elks Club.
