Roxbury Township, Mr. Walter “Butch” R Makin, 73, died on March 29, 2019 at the Hackettstown Hospital. He was born in Dover and lived most of his life in Succasunna. He served in the U S National Guard from 1963-1969 and then worked as a foreman for the Howemet Corporation in Rockaway for 35 years before retiring in 2001. He enjoyed hunting and working with heavy equipment, and often played guitar in a local band.

He is survived by his wife Cynthia L Makin of 52 years, sons; Arthur (and Vilma) Makin of East Stroudsburg, PA, and Wayne R Makin at home, and 5 grandchildren. He also leaves his 4 sisters; Emma Samuelsen of PA, Barbara Rolph of Byram Township, Edna Gardner of Blairstown, and Grace Banghart of Hackettstown, and brother Arthur Makin of S C. He was predeceased by his son Robert W Makin in 2009.

Friends may visit at the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Succasunna, NJ  973-584-7264  (davishepplewhitefh.com) on Wednesday, from 4 – 7 pm, with Military Honors at 6 pm. The Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, 10 am, at the Flanders-Hillside Cemetery.
