Roxbury Township, Rev. Steven Carlsen was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 3, 1959 and went Home to be with his
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 14, 2023. He grew up in Long Island, New York
where his parents, John and June Carlsen, were among the founding members of Dix Hills
Evangelical Free Church (DHEFC). It was at that church, when Steve was eight years old, that
he understood his need for a Savior and trusted in Jesus. At that same time, he knew that one
day he would be a pastor.
Steve graduated from Commack South High School in Commack, NY, Wheaton College in
Wheaton, Illinois, with a B.S. in Chemistry, and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School with a Master
of Divinity. He served as a pastor for nearly 40 years, first as a youth pastor at DHEFC for one
year, then went on to serve as the Pastor of Union Evangelical Free Church in Locust Gap, PA
for over seven years, followed by almost 25 years at Faith Evangelical Free Church in Freehold,
NJ. He joined Interim Pastor Ministries in 2018 and served as the interim pastor at Northern
Valley Evangelical Free Church for three years. His final interim pastorate was back at DHEFC
where his calling to the ministry began. He served there for one and a half years until October
2023.
Steve leaves behind his wife of 26 years Ruth, his parents John and June Carlsen, sisters
Donna (Joe) Clark, Carol Carlsen, nephews Jon Bergstol, Kris Bergstol and his fiancée Erin
