John P Hefferan

Roxbury Township, Mr. John P. Hefferan, 96, died on March 14, 2018 at his home in Ledgewood surrounded by his loving family. He was born in New Vernon, NY and grew up in Paterson, NJ.   A 1940 graduate of Paterson Eastside High School, he worked for Curtiss Wright and then served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946 as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate, Third Class.   After the war, he attended Fairleigh Dickinson in Rutherford, graduating in 1952 with a BS in Industrial Engineering.

John was predeceased by his beloved wife Elizabeth “Betty” Hefferan in 2008 and is survived by his beloved children; son Peter Hefferan (Patricia), daughters Patricia, Theresa (Dan), Christine Harrison (John) and daughter Margaret “Peg”.   He is survived by three wonderful granddaughters; Meghan & Amanda Hefferan, and Lauren Harrison.

Big brother to three siblings, he is survived by his sister Joan Burrafato of Wayne, NJ and his brother’s companion Iris D’Agostino of Phoenicia,NY.  He is predeceased by his sister Mary Collyer and brother James Hefferan.

A resident of Roxbury Township for the past 57 years, John was a member of the Roxbury Football Fathers’ Club, and active in  St. Therese’s parish as an usher, Eucharistic Minister, and a member of the Knights of Columbus.   An environmentalist, he enjoyed gardening, bird watching & the outdoors, and was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching his children’s & grandchildren’s athletic events as well as college basketball and the Mets.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Therese School, Succasunna (135 Main St, Succasunna, NJ 07876) or the Roxbury Fire & Rescue Squad, CO #1 (122 Main Street, Succasunna, NJ 07876).

Friends may visit at the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Succasunna 973-584-7264 (davishepplewhitefh.com) on Sunday, March 18th from 2 – 5 pm. The Funeral Liturgy will be held on Monday, March 19th at 10 am, at St. Therese R C Church in Succasunna, with the interment to follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Chester.
