Mine Hill, Mrs. Genevieve E. Verrinder, 91, died on March 9, 2015 in Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Clare’s Hospital in Dover. She was born in Dover and lived most of her life in Mine Hill. She was a retired manager for the Endicott Shoe Stores in Dover, Ledgewood and Rockaway Mall, where she worked for 25 years. She was a 1942 graduate of Dover High School and member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Mine Hill American Legion Post #391. She was an avid sports fan of the NY Mets and Washington Red Skins and enjoyed crafts, along with knitting and bingo.
She was predeceased by her husband Elmer Quentin Verrinder in 2004 (of 62 years), son Richard Verrinder in 2009, daughter Betty Romanelli in 1992, brothers Robert and Ralph Shupe, sister Marion Peterson, her parents Percy Shupe and Genevieve (Stilwell) Shupe, half –brothers; Carl and Albert Bahr, and step-mother Marie Shupe. She is survived by her daughter Shirley (and John) Van Syckel of Little Silver, Robert (and Linda) Verrinder of Lake Hopatcong and Timothy (and Silesia) Verrinder of Mine Hill. She also leaves her sister Elsie Brady of Winter Park FL, step-sister Evelyn Gurcius of Sun City AZ, 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and her beloved pet poodle “Cody.”
Friends may visit the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main St., Succasunna, NJ (973-584-7264) davishepplewhitefh.com, on Friday from 3-5 & 7-9 pm. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, 10 am, at the Funeral Home with the interment to follow at the Succasunna Presbyterian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to; The Mine Hill Rescue Squad, Compassionate Care Hospice Dover or the American Cancer Society.
