Newton, NJ  Mr. Frederick J O’Brien, Jr., 84, died on June 4, 2014 at his daughters home in Wharton. He was born in Elizabeth and lived in East Orange before moving his family to Succasunna. He served in the U S Navy from 1951 – 1955 on the USS Saipan,  he was with the East Orange Police Department as a Officer and Detective, UPS Security, and he was Chief  Security Officer with County of  Morris before retiring in 1997. He was an avid reader,  enjoyed music and history.

He was predeceased by parents Fredrick Sr. and Elizabeth O’Brien, his wife Eleanor (Ibsen) O’Brien in 1976, and his sisters; Patricia Shea, and Eileen Smullen. He is survived by his 6 children; Noreen O’Brien and husband Len of Great Meadows, Diane O’Brien of Woodbridge, Nancy Squires and husband John of Port Orange, Fl., Patricia Schwippert and husband Ted of Andover, Michael O’Brien and wife Yvette of North Carolina, Laura Steiger and husband Howard of Wharton. He also leaves his 7 grandchildren ; Katrina Burke, Sean Squires, Shane O’Brien,  Garrett Schwippert, Michael O’Brien, Nicole Steiger and Mackenzie O’Brien, his sister,  Colleen Colombrito of Mt. Arlington, and his dear friend MaryJoan Davis.
