Charles Sebastian, 95, of Ledgewood, died Sunday December 12th, at Morristown Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in the town of Franklin in 1926, Mr. Sebastian lived in Ledgewood with his wife Shirley for nearly 70 years. Mr. Sebastian was drafted into World War 2 in 1944 shortly after his 18th birthday, and served in the army for two years. He then worked as an inspector at Picatinny Arsenal, retiring in 1981 after 35 years of federal service. After retiring from Picatinny, Mr. Sebastian worked as a Roxbury Township school crossing guard for 12 years. He will be remembered for his deep affection for his family, compassion for animals, and love of gardening.
The son of the late John and Barbara Sebastian (Sebestyen), Mr. Sebastian was predeceased by his beloved wife Shirley on April 21, 2019, and his 12 siblings whom he missed dearly. He is survived by two daughters, Robin Hellyer ( and husband Luther) of Roxbury Twp, and Nancy Smith ( and husband Jim) of Lumberton, NC; four grandchildren, Jesse Hellyer (and wife Christine), Kaitlyn Hellyer (and Fiance Colin), Brittany Smith, and Bryan Smith (and wife Morgan); as well as three great-grand children, Charlotte, Cecilia and Jonathan. Mr. Sebastian also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
Friends may visit at the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Succasunna, NJ 973-584-7264 (davishepplewhitefh.com on Tuesday, from 6 – 8 pm. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, 10 am, at the Funeral Home with the interment to follow at the Flanders Hillside Cemetery.
