Randolph Township: Mrs. Adele Marion Konopka Ward, 95, died on June 17, 2020 at the Bright View Assisted Living Home in Randolph of natural causes. She was born in Newark, grew up in Irvington and graduated from Irvington High School. She met her husband, Robert J Ward and they were married on January 4, 1947. Robert soon left to join the Navy and when he returned, they first lived in Linden, then moved to Fanwood and spent most of their child raising years in West Caldwell. They retired to Spring Hill, Florida in 1988. They decided to return to NJ to be near their children and grandchildren. Adele moved to Randolph after her husband’s death in 2015. She was a homemaker and assisted her husband with billing for his Pharmacy in Glen Ridge. Later in life, Adele discovered her artistic abilities and thoroughly enjoyed painting. She also loved to cook and entertain her many relatives and friends. She is famous for her exquisite Christmas cookies which were eagerly looked forward to by those who were fortunate enough to receive a platter of them.
She was predeceased by her husband Robert, her son Raymond Robert Ward in 2012 and by her grandson Ryland Robert Ward in 2015. She is survived by her son Steven Ward of Caldwell, and daughter Karen Handy of Stanhope, and by her 8 grandchildren, Gretchen Mancuso, Michael Ward, Kevin Ward, Matthew Handy, Erin Handy, Stephanie Ward, Kelsey Ward and 6 great-grandchildren.
Adele’s memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 10, 2020 at Saint Therese Church, 151 Main Street, Succasunna, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations in Adele’s name to your local food bank would be greatly appreciated.
