Roxbury Township, Mr. Joseph Sclafani, 54, died on May 30, 2011 at Englewood Hospital. He was born and grew up in Brooklyn, NY and was a member of St Finbar’s R.C. Church. He lived in Morris County for the past 33 years. He graduated from Xaverian High School in Brooklyn and received his BA at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He was a Police Officer in Madison for 25 years and retired as a Sergeant in 2004. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 6320 and was an active member at St. Therese R.C. Church and chaired their carnival committee for many years. He also trained the altar servers. In 1995 he was a founding member of the Rory O’Moore pipes and drums. He loved being with his family and enjoyed summer vacations clamming on Cape Cod. He was also very active in the community.
Joe is survived by his wife Vivian of 31 years, and by his 6 children; Carrie , William, Susanne, Marybeth, Catherine, and Sara. He also leaves his parents Joan and Leo Sclafani of Brooklyn, 3 sisters; Patricia (and Frank) Zagare of Buffalo, Mary Sclafani of Brooklyn, and Catherine Dagrosa of Brooklyn, and her brother William (and Nancy) Sclafani of Rockport, MA, and his 8 nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main St., Succasunna, NJ (973-584-7264) davishepplewhitefh.com, on Thursday from 3 -9pm. The Funeral Liturgy will be held on Friday, 9:30 am at St. Therese R C Church, with the interment to follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Chester.
