Mr. Vincent A. DiMatteo Jr., 88, died on February 17, 2013 at Morristown Medical Center.  He was born on April 27, 1924 and raised in Newark, and later lived in Bloomfield, Fair Lawn, and Succasunna for 30 years before moving to Mine Hill 18 years ago.  He was a 1942 graduate of Arts High School in Newark, NJ.

He served his country from 1942-1946 as an Electrician’s Mate for the US Navy aboard the USS Missouri (BB-63).  The Missouri was the site of the surrender of the Empire of Japan which ended WWII on September 2, 1945.

Mr. DiMatteo was a professional tailor early on in his career, and then worked in the acoustical engineering services field, employed first by Goodfriend & Ostergaard Associates in Cedar Knolls and then Ostergaard Acoustical Associates in West Caldwell and West Orange until retiring in 1989. 

Vincent was the son of the late Maria Consiglia (Picone) and Vincent Anthony DiMatteo Sr.; also predeceased by his brother Luigi DiMatteo and sister Agostina McMahon.  He was married for 53 years to the love of his life, Theresa (Soldinski) until her death in 2008.  Vincent was a loving husband, devoted father and uncle, and proud grandfather; and his corny sense of humor will be sorely missed.   He is survived by his son, Vincent A. DiMatteo III of Morris Plains, twin daughters Donna Secola and her husband Chris of Berkshire Valley, Denise DiMatteo of Lake Hopatcong, and twin grandchildren Billy and Kelly Secola.  Also surviving are his brother-in-law John McMahon of Bloomfield, sister-in-law Gloria Sadowski of Hunlock Creek, PA, nephews Joseph McMahon of Bloomfield, Theodore Sadowski and Edward Sadowski of Hunlock Creek, PA, nieces Marie McMahon-Takesh and her husband Steven of Montville, Lucia McMahon and her husband Jack Kroll of Montville, Terry Gourley of Richboro, PA, Patricia Crabtree of Barboursville, VA; Gloria Kremski and Sandra Sipsky of Hunlock Creek, PA; 19 great nieces & nephews; 1 great-great nephew, and 1 great-great niece. 

Friends may visit at the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Succasunna, on Wednesday from 4-8pm, www. davishepplewhitefh.com.
