Thomas R Sillence

Roxbury Township, Mr. Thomas Robert Sillence, 71, died on June 23, 2015 at St. Clare’s Hospital in Dover. He was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio where he attended Toledo University and was a member of the Alpha Phi Omega fraternity.  He moved with his family to Morristown, NJ in the early 1960’s.  He worked at the Morris Plains Pharmacy before joining the military service and served with the Army’s 2nd division during the Viet Nam War, stationed in Korea.  He was honorably discharged from the service and joined the Morris Minutemen.  He worked as a policeman at the Morris Township Police Department and retired after 27 years of honorable service, receiving many awards and certifications.  During his tenure as a police officer, he was the PBA president for Local #133 during the late 1970’s and early 1980’s.  He was also a little league baseball coach in Morristown and later became a certified baseball umpire, where he umpired at high school and college baseball games in the area.  While living in New Jersey, he continued his education at Fairleigh Dickenson University and Trenton State College.  After his retirement, he worked for the Roxbury Board of Education as a bus driver.  He also drove buses for Laidlaw, Lakeland and Aristocrat charter bus companies.  He is a member of the V F W Post and the American Legion in Mine Hill.   He has been a resident of Roxbury Township for over 32 years and was a member of the Ledgewood Baptist Church.

He was predeceased by his son Robert “Bob” T Sillence in 2005 and is survived by his wife Karen Lynn Sillence of 45 years, daughter Kerry (and Brad) Mittelstadt of Stanhope, granddaughter Kayla Sillence of Rockaway, brother Daniel (and Barbara Jean) Sillence of Boynton Beach, FL, and sister Suzanne (and Ben) Haines of Roxbury Township.

Friends may visit at the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Succasunna 973-584-7264 (davishepplewhitefh.com) on Friday 3 – 5 & 7 – 9 pm. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, 10 am at the Funeral Home, with the interment to follow at the Succasunna Presbyterian Cemetery.
