Sophie Smith

Kathleen, GA, formerly of Landing, NJ  Mrs. Sophie Smith 93, beloved wife, mother and grandmother died on February 19, 2018 after a heroic battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born in New York City, N.Y and graduated from Straubenmuller High School in New York. She was a happy resident of Landing for 54 years prior to moving to Georgia in 2007. She retired in 1992, after working 25 years as a Secretary for the Director of Security at the County College Of Morris. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Church and Philoptochos Society, Creamo’s women bowling league and the Roxbury Senior Club. She lived life to it’s fullest by enjoying reading, baking, traveling, dancing and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her sister Christina Hobby, Brother, Peter Frangos, her loving children, Valerie and Luis Alvarez and Eileen and Stephen Smith, grandchildren; Dana Smith (Mariana Lima), Melissa Smith, Nicole Fusco (Joe Fusco), William Smith (Kristen Smith), Alexandra Alvarez, and Michael Alvarez, great grandchildren; Ethan and Joshua Lynch, and Greyson Fusco, many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her very loving husband of 69 years, the late William Smith, her parents, Mary and Stephen Frangos, sisters; Jeanne Nicoholson, Nettie Meola, and Bessie Frangos. Her family and friends will miss her smile, kindness and loving helpful heart.

Friends may visit at the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Succasunna on Friday from 4-8 pm. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 11:30 am, at St. Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Church in Randolph, with the interment to follow at the Presbyterian Cemetery Succasunna. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
