Roxbury Township, Mr. Sidney Raymond Bateson, 80, died on October 15, 2012 at the Compassionate Care Hospice in Dover. He was born in Mt. Hope and lived in Ledgewood most all of his life. He was a retired forging inspector at McWilliam’s Forge in Rockaway for many years, and was a member of the Succasunna United Methodist Church, and Roxbury Township Fire Co. #1. He was also an avid fisherman and loved golf and bowling.

He was one of 10 children and is survived by his wife, Betty (Strait) of 52 years and by four children; Jacqueline (and Nicholas) Cutter of Lk. Hopatcong, Roger (and Bonnie) Hartley of Stanhope, Robert Hartley of Hopatcong, and Deborah (and Thomas) Morrison of Hopatcong, sisters; Ella Zeman of NY, Clarn Moore of Dover, brothers; Robert Bateson of Mt. Hope and Richard Bateson of GA, 8 granddaughters, 6 great granddaughters, and 7 great grandsons.

Friends may visit at the Davis and Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main St., Succasunna (973-584-7264) davishepplewhitefh.com on Wednesday from 4 – 8 p.m. The Funeral Service will be private, with the interment to follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Chester.
