Michael William O’Gorman of Succasunna, NJ passed away on Thursday, February 8 at Sunrise in Randolph, NJ. Michael was born on June 1,1936 in Jersey City, NJ. He was the son of the late Howard and Helen (Murray) O’Gorman. He grew up in Nutley, NJ where he lived most of his life until he moved to Succasunna in 2005. Michael graduated from St. Thomas the Apostle School in Bloomfield, NJ. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Rutherford, NJ in 1955. In 1959, he graduated from Pennsylvania Military College in Chester, Pennsylvania, which is now known as Widener University. Upon graduation from college, Michael served in the U.S. Army. He then returned to Nutley where he became owner of NBC Auto Parts when his Dad, Howard, died. Michael’s father founded the business in 1937. NBC Auto Parts is now in Clifton, NJ. Michael loved animals and had many dogs during his lifetime. He also loved cars. He and his brother loved working on and restoring classic cars. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing. Woodworking was also a passion of his. He owned a 100 year old Amish farm house and barn in Pennsylvania which he restored.
Michael leaves his wife of 12 years, Joyce (Moranski Fifoot) O’Gorman, brother-in-law Joseph (and Ellen) Moranski of Budd Lake, and nephews; Justin and Jonathan Moranski, and his extended family Richard Fifoot and Sheryl Silverman of Swedesboro NJ, Karen (Fifoot) Crawn and Anthony Crawn of East Stroudsburg, PA, Suzanne (Fifoot) Huyler and William Huyler of Long Valley, NJ and Stephen Fifoot and Antoinette Dominicci-Fifoot of Lake Hopatcong, NJ. As an addition to his extended family he leaves many grandchildren: Autumn Drury, Kiersten Ferrara, Sydney Drury, Andrew Huyler, Eric Huyler, Peter Fifoot, Antonio Irizarry, Jillian Irizarry and Anthony Crawn III and 2 great grand children Olivianna and Mandolin. Michael was predeceased by his sister, Patricia (O’Gorman) Smith and brother-in-law, Richard Smith and brother Dr. Howard F. O’Gorman. He leaves his sister-in-law, Pat O’Gorman of Sparta, NJ and 8 nieces and nephews and their children: John and Laurie O’Gorman, Helene (O’Gorman) and Andrew Riedel, Allen O’Gorman and Jane, Kathleen (O’Gorman) and Eugene Catanzaro. Mark Smith, Mary Beth (Smith) and Dempsey Harris, Caroline (Smith) and Thomas Rivers, Sharon (Smith) and James Lee.
Visitation will be on Monday February 12 from 2-5 at Davis and Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Succasunna, NJ. A funeral mass will be held at St. Therese R.C. Church, 155 Main Street Succasunna on Tuesday February 13 at 10 am. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc. or 11th hour rescue.
