John L D’Ottavio

Hackettstown, WWII Army Air Corps Veteran Private John Louis D’Ottavio, 92, died peacefully on July 27, 2015, with his family by his side. He was born in Dover and lived in Succasunna most of his life before moving to TX and then to Hackettstown. He was a self-employed floor covering contractor for over 70 years. John L., a radio and u-control airplane enthusiast, coached the Roxbury American Legion Baseball team, was inducted into the American Modeling Hall of Fame, was an avid fisherman, loved gardening, and especially loved cooking.

He was predeceased by his wife Yolanda A (Tardive) D’Ottavio in 1988 and infant daughter Lona. He is survived by his 6 children – John “Skeets” D’Ottavio Jr, Nickey (and Cindy) D’Ottavio of Hackettstown, Phil D’Ottavio of Succasunna, Donna Scarnulis of PA, and Victor D’Ottavio and Billy D’Ottavio, both of AL. He also leaves his 2 sisters – Anna Catalano and Mary Whitmore, both of FL; 9 grandchildren – Nickey D’Ottavio Jr, Gina Riley, Danny D’Ottavio, and Lisa (and Geoff) Edmunds; Anthony, Matthew, and Ashley Scarnulis; Phil D’Ottavio Jr; and Jonathan D’Ottavio; and 7 great grandchildren – Emily and Jake Riley; Andrew, Jessica and Sophia D’Ottavio; and Trevor and Violet Edmunds.

Friends may visit at the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Succasunna 973-584-7264 (davishepplewhitefh.com) on Thursday from 4 – 7 PM. The Funeral Liturgy will be held on Friday, 10 AM at St. Therese R C Church, Main St, Succasunna, with the interment to follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.
