Stanhope, Mr. John H Harnett, 81, died on August 31, 2016 at the Newton Hospital. He was born and raised in Jersey City and moved to Stanhope 54 years ago. He summered in Beemerville at his family cottage which he helped build. He graduated from St. Peter’s Prep and then earned his BS from St. Peter’s University in Jersey City. He was a physicist at Picatinny Arsenal from 1956 – 1993.

He was the son of the late Stephen and Marie Harnett and was predeceased by his brother Stephen Harnett in 1989. He is survived by his loving wife Catherine “Kay” (Coughlin) Harnett of 59 years, by his 4 children; Mark (and Pamela) Harnett, Marie (and Mark) Gaug, Helen (and Daniel) Flaherty, and John (and Susanne) Harnett. He also leaves his 9 grandchildren; Jacqueline, Elizabeth, Stephen, David, Sean, Kevin, Aedan, Ian, and Katherine, and a great grandson Thomas.

Friends may visit at the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Succasunna 973-584-7264 (davishepplewhitefh.com) on Saturday from 12 – 4 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at 3 pm. The interment will be private.
