Roxbury Township, Mrs. Jean C Lewis, 100, died on January 14, 2018 , 18 hours short of her 101st birthday, at home in Ledgewood, NJ. She was born in Port Glasgow, Scotland, and settled in Passaic, NJ at the age of 7. She lived most of her life in New Jersey, other than 12 years in New Orleans, Louisiana, and 17 years in Karthaus, Pennsylvania, before returning to New Jersey in 2000. She became a Naturalized Citizen in 1948, as well as graduating from Passaic General Hospital School of Nursing. Most recently, she was an active member of Hillside Church in Succasunna, and a member of Hillside Association of Retired People and Roxbury Community Bible Study. She was always involved in her church and school communities wherever she lived.
She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Robert B Lewis, in 2001, her high school sweetheart whom she married in 1941. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Barbara L Hoffman, in 1992 and her grandson, Keith Spencer, in 2015. She is survived by her 3 daughters: Margaret L Finkill of Ephrata, PA; Janet C Spencer of Ledgewood; NJ, and Carolyn L Kannapel of Media, PA. She also leaves her 7 grandchildren; Emily, Jennifer, Bethany, Robert, Steven, Jason, and Andrew, and her 12 great grandchildren.
A private graveside Service will be held at the West Ridgelawn Cemetery in Clifton. Her Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 20th, at the Hillside Church, 113 S. Hillside Avenue, Succasunna at 11 am, with family visitation from 10 – 11 am.
