Roxbury Township, Mrs. Esther H. Santos, 86, died on November 22, 2025 surrounded by her family. Esther was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY where she graduated with honors from Fort Hamilton High School and began her career as a civil servant for the Navy. In the late 1950s, she moved to Sparta, NJ with her family and continued to work for the Navy at Picatinny Arsenal. She met Joseph Santos through the Picatinny bowling league and in 1960 married Joseph and moved to Succasunna, NJ.
While raising her family, she returned to work at Picatinny Arsenal in the early 1980s and retired as an engineering technician in 2014. She formed many strong friendships at Picatinny and they positively impacted her and her family’s lives to this day.
Throughout her life, Esther loved music and dancing. From high school dances to tap dancing, zumba and country line dancing, she never missed an opportunity to dance, including dancing in the kitchen almost daily. She will especially be remembered for her generosity and her fierce love for her family and close friends.
She was predeceased by her husband Joseph S Santos in 2009 and her son, Joseph Edward Santos, in 1962. She is survived by her two daughters Joanne Tobie of Bordentown, NJ and Dianne Saucyn of Mount Olive, NJ. She also leaves three grandchildren, Paige Saucyn, Kara Saucyn and Brian Tobie (wife Jamie Tobie) and a great grandson John Christian Tobie.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to the March of Dimes.
Visitation will be at Davis and Hepplewhite Funeral Home in Succasunna, NJ on Sunday, December 28th from 2-5 pm with dinner to follow.
In honor of Esther’s joyful outlook, her family asks that all in attendance wear bright colors.
