Dorothy L Powell, age 67, passed away peacefully at Morris View Healthcare Center in Morris Plains, NJ from complications of diabetes. Born to Dorothy and Frank Powell in Montclair, she lived in Essex County until moving to Morris View in 2015.   A graduate of Livingston HS and Katherine Gibbs School of Business she was employed in the credit department of a bank for 23 years then became a Sales Associate at JC Penney in Wayne. She retired on disability from complications of diabetes in 2004.

Dorothy was a loving and devoted aunt to Daniel and his wife Mary, Bryan and Christine and a great-aunt to Aidan, Jackie and Conor. She was pre-deceased by her nephew and godson, Frank Junior, her brother, Frank and her parents. She leaves to cherish her memory one sister, Beverly Ann, and her sister-in-law, Mary Ann Powell.

Dor was well-known for her caring and considerate interactions with family and friends and her meek and gentle, sweet manner. She had a strong work ethic acquired from her parents. Dor loved the Jer-sey Shore and visited Long Beach Island for 50+ years. On trips to her sister’s, she volunteered at SOME, a soup kitchen in DC where she served the poor.

Dorothy’s family expresses their deep appreciation to the staff at Morris View for their compassionate care and attention to her physical and emotional needs, especially at the end of her life.

Donations can be made in her memory to SOME or to the pet rescue group of your choice.

The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at 11 am at the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Succasunna 973-584-7264 (davishepplewhitefh.com), friends may visit from 10 – 12 noon.
