Donald E Seeger, Sr

Roxbury Township, Mr. Donald Edwin Seeger, Sr., 102, died peacefully at home on March 11, 2026.

He was born in Wharton, NJ and lived most of his life in Succasunna.  After he graduated Roxbury High School in 1941, he attended Muhlenberg College.  His education was interrupted by serving in the US Navy during World War II.  He returned to Muhlenberg College, after his honorable discharge in 1946, and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry/Physics in 1948.  Later he earned his Master of Science Degree from Stevens Institute of Technology in Chemistry in 1955.

He was employed by Picatinny Arsenal as a Mechanical/Chemical Engineer working in Applied Research and Development associated with Primary and Secondary Explosives, Pyrotechnics and other applications.  Throughout his 34 year career, he was an essential member in the programs that were (and still are) vital to our Nation’s defense.  He is named on numerous patents and awards.  After retirement, he began his own consulting firm.  He was an expert witness and worked for major businesses such as in the Automotive Industry relating to the development of the airbags.

While in high school, he set the Mile Run record in 1941.  The record stood until 1976 when his son, Donald Jr. broke it.

He loved the outdoors- walking, hiking, biking and/or sitting on the patio.  He was a member of the Catskill 3500 Club and Appalachian Trail Conservancy.  He was also a 75+ year member of the Musconetcong Lodge #42 of Free and Accepted Masons and a life member of the First Presbyterian Church of Succasunna. He was proud to be a member of Muhlenberg College’s Circle of 1848.

Preceding him in death are his wife Maryann, his parents Fred and Bertha, and brother Fred.  He is survived by his children: Donald E. Seeger Jr. (wife Amy), Nancy A. Jones (husband Lawrence) and Carol A. Seeger.  He is also survived by three grandchildren: Donald E. Seeger III (wife Kimberly), Alison M. Jones (fiance Michael G. Rettig) and Emily E. Jones.  In addition, he is survived by two great-grandchildren: Katelyn M. Seeger and Deanna E. Seeger.

Don will be dearly missed, forever loved and remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.  Don was a loving father, participated in his children’s lives and was an excellent role model.  He was the best!

The family would like to thank the Morristown Memorial Hospital staff, Atlantic Visiting Nurse Hospice staff and home aides for the comfort, dignity and support provided to Don and the family. And, a special thank you to the Lincoln Roosevelt School staff and students for always making Don feel extra special and loved.

A private family service and burial will be held to honor Don’s life.
