Clyde “Butch” Canfield passed away on June 16, 2026, to be with his beloved wife Pauletta, two weeks after her passing. Despite health issues later in life, Butch held on to life for several years, knowing he had to be there for his bride of 63 years. She was the apple of his eye.

Clyde was born to Alfred and Olga Canfield in Ledgewood, New Jersey, and was raised with two brothers, Paul and Floyd, and sister Alfrida. Butch enjoyed church softball for many years and graduated from Roxbury High. He met his future wife at the First Baptist Church of Ledgewood, NJ, and knew she was the one. After graduating from Roxbury High School, he married Pauletta Wetzel in 1962 at Ledgewood Baptist Church by her father, Reverend Millard Wetzel. A year later, Clyde “Junior” was born in ’63, followed by Pauletta “Little Letta” in ’65. Penny wanted more children, but Butch said, “Boy and a Girl, what more do we need?” After retiring as Supervisor for the Water and Sewer Authority of Randolph, NJ in 1997, he moved to W. V. and later to Floral City, FL to be closer to his wife’s parents.

Clyde is preceded by his wife Pauletta “Penny” Canfield on June 2, 2026, and by his parents, brother Paul, Floyd, and sister Alfreda. Clyde is survived by Junior, Letta, and the grandchildren.

The Viewing will be at Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home in Succasunna, New Jersey on Thursday, June 25 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 am, and burial at the Succasunna Presbyterian Cemetery, New Jersey.
