Betty J. Post, 96, of Morris Township passed away peacefully on May 25, 2016, at Merry Heart Nursing Home, Succasunna, NJ. Born in Chicago, Illinois to Charles and Beatrice Post, they moved to Umatilla, Florida where she grew up. It was there on the farm, where she learned the importance of a life of staying active and eating healthy. After earning her undergraduate degree in Social Work, she joined the Army and served as a WAC, providing career counselling to returning soldiers during World War II. After discharge, she applied for a Social Work position in New Jersey. An independent woman, before that was the norm; she drove to New Jersey alone in her Volkswagen Beetle. It is here in the Morristown area, she lived the rest of her life. Working for the NJ Department of Health in Newark and then for 30 years at Greystone Hospital. While at Greystone she attained her Master’s Degree in Social Work at Rutgers. She loved her work and continued to use her skills even well after retirement. She was active her entire life. She loved hiking, walking, gardening and of course, reading. She was still walking a mile a day at age 95. She is predeceased by her dear friend and companion Dr. Ruth Ferris. Betty’s quick wit and smile will be missed by many friends, especially by her dear friends, Kathy and Bob Whitehead and Diane Hertzig. Special thanks to Merry Heart staff and Compassionate Care Hospice for the wonderful care Betty received. In lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite animal rescue in honor of Betty’s love of dogs and cats. No services will be held. Arrangements by Davis and Hepplewhite Funeral Home.
