Barbara Ann Wolf

Barbara Ann Wolf (nee Gruebel) was born in Maspeth, Queens, New York, on April 26, 1948 to Francis A Gruebel and Matilda Ann Gruebel (nee Naeder). She passed away after a courageous fight against cancer at home surrounded by her loving family on December 11, 2025, at the age of 77.

At a young age her family relocated to Williston Park, New York, to make way for the Long Island Expressway being built in Queens in the early 1950’s.

She was the 2nd oldest of 7 children and the oldest sister.  While finishing Herricks High School, she met a US Merchant Marine Academy first-year plebe on a blind date organized by one of her girlfriends.  The thing he remembered the most about Barbara was her infectious laugh.  Many years later the plebe, now husband, was still enchanted by that laugh.

John and Barbara were married in St Aidan’s Church in Williston Park on April 10, 1970. After a whirlwind honeymoon, they settled down in California where 2 sons were born. A short time later a third son was born in Texas. In 1976 the family moved to Succasunna, NJ, where they lived nearly 50 years.

Barbara was predeceased by her parents, brother, Tom, and sister, Rita.  She is survived by her husband John, her three sons John C, Michael, and Robert, her daughter-in-law Beth (Michael), granddaughters Madeleine Wolf and Olivia Wolf, sisters Marie, Cathy, and Pat, brother Frank and many cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends.

A wake will be held at Davis and Hepplewhite Funeral Home , 96 Main Street, Succasunna, NJ 973-584-7264 on Thursday, January 8, 2026, from 1 pm to 4 pm.  Burial will be privately held at a later date at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Chester, NJ.
