Mt. Olive Township, Mr. Nicholas P. DeWitt, 91, passed peacefully on November 17, 2022, at his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Wervershoof, Netherlands to Catharina Duin and Frederick De Wit. Nicholas graduated from the Technical University in Delft, Netherlands, with a doctorate degree in Chemical Engineering. He came to the United States in 1960 to work in silicone research related to his patent in Buffalo, NY for General Electric. Nicholas and his family also lived in Sistersville, West Virginia, where he worked for Union Carbide. Thereafter, in Adrian, Michigan, he continued his career at Stauffer Chemical. In the late sixties, Nicholas landed in New Jersey, where he continued to practice his love for chemical engineering at Exxon in Florham Park. He retired in 1985 but always kept his mind active, whether engaging as a consultant or teaching chemistry in a private high school.

Nicholas enjoyed spending time outdoors and gardening throughout his life. He appreciated a challenging chess game and sitting down to a good meal with a glass of wine (with peanuts on the side). Last but not least, Nicholas loved sharing stories about his younger days in Holland and his adventures traveling. Nicholas was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Flanders and the Knights of Columbus.

 He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Anna, his eight children, Nicole, Machteld, Matilda, Monica, Marianne, Rudolph, Panchita, and Juanita as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The Funeral Liturgy will be held at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 61 Main Street, Flanders, NJ, (973) 927-1629 (stelizabethschurch.org) on Saturday, November 26th at 11:00 am.
