Roxbury Township, Mr. Joseph J. Pignato, 88, died peacefully in his home on July 11, 2011. He was born in Newark, NJ and lived in West Orange and Rockaway before moving to Landing 34 years ago. He graduated from Newark Technical Institute prior to serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was last employed for 25 years at Picatinny Arsenal as a computer-aided-design engineer, retiring in 1988.
Joe was an avid golfer and an accomplished artist in watercolor and photography. He loved living at his waterfront home on Lake Hopatcong, gardening and fishing, and spending vacation time on Long Beach Island, NJ with his family. He was a past member of the Roxbury Art Association and the ARC of Morris County.
He was predeceased last year by his beloved wife Marion (Belbey) of 64 years. He was the loving father to his four children: Judith (and Robert) Gilfillan of Landing, Jacqueline (and Howard) Guttman of Ledgewood, Joseph John Jr. (and Cida) Pignato of Hillsborough, and Daniel Patrick Pignato of Landing; devoted grandfather to his seven grandchildren: Michelle Sheldon, Charles Jugans, Melissa Guttman, Shawn and Ryan Gilfillan, Nathalia Pignato, and Hope Pignato; and his four great grandchildren: Keely Jugans, and Kelsey, Jordan, and Riley Gilfillan.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Friday from 3 – 5 & 7 – 9 PM at Davis and Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Succasunna (973-584-7264) davishepplewhitefh.com. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, 10 AM at the Succasunna United Methodist Church, with the interment to follow at the Succasunna Presbyterian Cemetery, with military honors.
