Roxbury Township, Mr. Malcolm Lines, Sr. 88, died peacefully at his home Tuesday May 21, 2019.   The son of Malcolm J. Lines and Margaret (Currie) Lines both of Kearney, NJ. He was born September 21, 1930 in Kearney, NJ and is preceded in death by his older, twin brothers Fredrick and Neil.  He was a graduate of Kearney High School, and in 1950 he joined the United State Marine Corps in anticipation of the upcoming draft. He was a High Expert Rifleman and was selected to serve on the USMC Pistol and Rifle Team and later as a training coach on the qualification range at Base Camp Pendleton, CA.  As the war in Korea progressed he was transferred to the Fleet Marine Force (FMF) where he served as USMC Security aboard several US Naval vessels.

After his discharge in 1953 he attended electronics school under the GI Bill, and later opened his own television and radio repair shop in Kearny, NJ.  He married Janet E. Dunlap of Rutherford, NJ and together they built a home on Eyland Ave. on part of the old Read Farm in Succasunna, NJ.  He began working for the Roxbury Township board of Education as an electrician, working in all township schools for nearly 15 years.  He also drove a school bus as needed. In addition to his “regular” job he started farming the family property in Succasunna with his brother, Rev. Neil M. Lines, selling vegetables from their farm stand which later grew to become Gentle Slope Farm.  The farm then became known as the Lines Farm, which is now the location of the Roxbury Community Gardens.

He was an avid collector of local early American Indian artifacts having excavated several sites and amassing a large collection of artifacts.  He frequently gave lectures on the subject and loved to talk about his secret digs.

He was a member of the Mount Olive Community Church, formerly known as the Mount Olive Baptist Church of Mt. Olive, NJ for more than 65 years; under the leadership of Rev. Neil M. Lines and currently Rev. Neil B. Lines.  He was a Master Mason of Colonial-Prospect Lodge #24 F & A.M. in Chester, NJ for more than 50 years, a member of the American Legion Post #39 of Mine Hill, NJ and The Marine Corps League, Slattery Detachment, Whippany, NJ.

He and Janet had four children, Margaret Lines-Richardi of PA, Marion Lines-Kopf (deceased), Malcolm Lines, Jr. of PA and Melissa Lines-Springer of Fl., eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He later married Marjorie A Powers-Lines, his wife of 30 years. This union brought four more children into his life: John V. Kuhnen (deceased), Scott Kuhnen of N.C., Julie Kuhnen-Isbel of N.C., and Brittany Lines of N.C. And additionally, three more grandchildren. He and Marge loved working together in the yard and they enjoyed hours of relaxation in the backyard with their dog Pepper.

Malcolm loved animals and had a deep admiration of God’s handiwork in nature.

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 10 a.m., at the Funeral Home, with the interment to follow at the Succasunna Presbyterian Cemetery.
