Roxbury Township, Mr. John M (Jack) Lehnert, Jr, 77, died on October 3, 2024 at home. He was born in Jersey City, lived in West New York, NJ before moving to Succasunna as a youngster. He graduated from Roxbury High School , and then earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Moravian University in Bethlehem, PA. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War from 1969-1973 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. After his service, using the G.I. bill, he obtained a teaching certificate from The College of NJ. He worked at AT&T for over 20 years, after which he worked as a Veterans Business Representative at the NJ Department of Labor in New Brunswick, where he retired. Jack was a lifelong member of St. Therese R C Church in Succasunna. He served as Commander of the Roxbury VFW post 2833 and was honored to be chosen Grand Marshall of the Memorial Day parade for the township of Roxbury in 2023.He enjoyed playing football and baseball in his youth, was an avid fisherman, was a fifth degree black belt and master in taekwondo. Jack had a wonderful sense of humor and will be missed by his friends and family.
He was predeceased by his parents Katherine (nee Stuiso) and John M Lehnert, Sr. He is survived by his sister Eileen Howell (and Kent) of Thompson Ridge, NY , niece Sarah Howell (and John Kim) of Cresskill, NJ, nephew Daniel Howell (and Rebecca) of Damascus, PA, grand nieces and nephews Savannah Howell, Gwen Howell, Ryan Kim, Gabrielle Kim and Christopher Howell.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held on Friday, October 25th, 2024 at 11:30 am, at the North New Jersey Veterans Cemetery in Sparta. Arrangements are by the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Succasunna, NJ, 973-584-7264 (
