Jefferson Twp., Mr. Roger P Mooney, 75, passed away on May 28, 2025 at the Morristown Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family after a short illness. Roger was born in Dover, NJ to Samuel and Caroline (Waer) Mooney and was raised in Wharton. Roger graduated from Roxbury High School in 1969 and spent the last 46 years in Lake Hopatcong, NJ. He was a proud veteran that served in the U S Navy during the Vietnam Era. He later worked as a driver for the Daily Record Newspaper. He was an avid airplane enthusiast and enjoyed building models, writing stories fishing and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sylvia L (Elgesem) Mooney; his 3 sons and their wives; Samuel and Jamie (Szypulka) Mooney; Jason and Heather (Hopkins) Mooney; Todd and Kelly (Toroni) Mooney; his 8 grandchildren, Kyra, Cheyenne, Daniel, Jaceylin, Connor, Kamryn, Jacob and Carter; 2 great grandchildren Grayson and Paityn; his aunts Evelyn Vershraegen and Alice Doblosky; and many cousins , nieces and nephews and close friends. He is predeceased by his brother Patrick and sister Cheryl Ann.

Friends may visit at the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Succasunna, NJ 973-584-7264 on Monday, June 2nd, 2025 from 3 – 6 pm. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 3 pm at the Funeral Home, followed by U S Navy Military Honors.
