Mary Ann P Kennedy

Mary Ann P. Kennedy of Roxbury Township, age 78, died peacefully on September 5, 2013 after a lengthy illness.  Mary Ann was born in Dover to the late Thomas and Anna (Hoffman) Kennedy.  She attended Mount St. Dominic Academy in Caldwell, and was graduated from Caldwell College with a B. A. in Education.  Her post-graduate work included degree programs in English and Library Science at the University of Scranton and Caldwell College, respectively.

Mary Ann retired from the Morris School District in 1999 after a 30-year career as a language arts teacher at the Frelinghuysen Middle School.  Prior to that, she taught at various parochial schools in Caldwell and Verona and was a former member of the community of Dominican Sisters of Caldwell, N.J.  She was a member of the New Jersey Education Association, the National Education Association, the Morris County Retired Educators Association, and the New Jersey Retirees’ Education Association.

An avid dog fancier, Mary Ann was a prominent owner and exhibitor of nationally ranked, champion Giant Schnauzers, and served for many years as the American Kennel Club delegate for the Giant Schnauzer Club of America.  She belonged to the Twin Brooks Kennel Club for nearly four decades, and held office as treasurer for much of that time. 

Mary Ann was known for her generosity, kindness, and quiet perseverance. She enjoyed travel, especially to Maine and Lake George, spending over thirty summers on the lake.

Surviving Mary Ann are her sister, Dorothy Sarsat of Roxbury Township; sister and brother-in-law Joanne Kennedy and William Dunn of Bedminster; her dear friends Irene Cunnane, and the Kaub family including Mary Ann, Sandy and Bob, Laura, Peter and family, and God-daughter Joanna; many cousins; and her beloved Welsh Terriers, Justin and Delilah.

Friends may visit at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church in Flanders on Thursday, September 12, 2013 from 9:30-10:15 A.M.  The funeral liturgy will immediately follow.  Arrangements are by Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Succasunna.  973-584-7264 (davishepplewhitefh.com).  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary Ann’s name to the charity of your choice.
