Marguerite V Gargiulo

Marguerite Veronica Gargiulo, 83, of Roxbury, NJ, passed away surrounded by her loving family.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Marguerite’s life was a beautiful story of love, devotion, and joy. As a young girl, she once caught the eye of her future husband, Vincent, as she ran down a Brooklyn street—fast, full of life, and unforgettable. The two began dating at just 14 years old, beginning a lifelong love story that would span decades. They were married on May 5, 1962, and during their honeymoon in the Poconos, they won a twist dance contest—just one of many joyful memories they shared together.

Marguerite and Vincent later built their forever home in Roxbury, New Jersey, purchasing their house in 1966, where they created a warm and welcoming life centered around family.

She was the most caring and kind woman, always going out of her way to make others feel comfortable, loved, and happy. Her home was a place where everyone felt welcome. She especially loved hosting holidays, bringing her family together with her cooking—her lasagna was a favorite—and her thoughtful attention to every detail.

Marguerite found joy in life’s simple pleasures and the community she loved. She was a leader of the Roxbury Model Airplane Club and took great pride in flying and sharing that passion with others. She also cherished time spent on Lake Hopatcong, where she enjoyed boating and dining by the water—moments that brought her peace and happiness. At home, she loved gardening and being driven around by her beloved husband, Vinny, soaking in life’s everyday joys. Marguerite was a proud member of the Red Hat Society and was honored to serve as a Queen Red Hat, a role she embraced with fun, friendship, and spirit. She was also a strong advocate for the Roxbury Fenimore Landfill, standing firm in her beliefs and caring deeply about her community. A devoted New York Rangers fan, she cheered on her team with unwavering passion and loyalty.

Above all, Marguerite—affectionately known as “Cheech” to her beloved husband—was deeply devoted to her family. She never missed a school event or a sports game, always showing up with unwavering love and support. Her presence was constant, her care unconditional, and her love felt by all who knew her.

She is the beloved wife of Vincent Gargiulo of 64 years; loving mother of Vince Gargiulo and fiancée Wanda and Elizabeth Chaplin ; and cherished grandmother of Cory, Madison, and Clayton Chaplin. She is survived by her siblings, Dawn Capozzalo and William Heaning, and many nieces and nephews. She is now reunited with her beloved parents James and Elizabeth Ridley Heaning and her sisters, Joan McKenna and Sharon Feltman, and her brothers James, John, Ronald, Thomas, Bernard, Frank, Michael, and Brian Heaning, who passed before her.

Marguerite’s kindness, warmth, and dedication to her family will be remembered always and missed beyond words.
