Helen B Devaney

Wharton, NJ   Mrs. Helen (Burke) Devaney, 91, died on April 5, 2015 at Regency Grand Nursing Home in Dover. She was born in Long Island and lived in Rahway, Randolph for 57 years, and briefly in Wharton prior to moving to Regency Grande. She was a retired writer for the Randolph Reporter and held a degree in journalism and anthropology from the County College of Morris and earned her BA in Journalism from Montclair State University. She later worked in her families accounting business, in Randolph.  She loved reading and had a passion for vocabulary and would enjoy the “Word of the Day” right to the end.

She is survived by her husband Joseph G Devaney of 62 years, her daughter Kelly Anne (and Marvin) Carmona of Randolph, a son Kevin G (and Dominique) Devaney of Evergreen, CO, 5 grandchildren;  Lauren and Karl Erickson,  Payden, Lyla, and Asher Devaney, sister Joan Planthaber of Raleigh, NC, God  Daughter Barbara Green and many loving nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit at the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Succasunna 973-584-7264 (davishepplewhitefh.com) on Friday from 10 – 11 am, with the Funeral Service at 11 am, at the Funeral Home. Donations may be made in her name to the Make a Wish Foundation.
