Gwendolyn Johnson

 

 Roxbury Township,     Mrs. Gwendolyn “Peg” M Johnson, 82, died on May 9, 2011 at Merry Heart Nursing Home in Succasunna. She was born in Summit and raised in Chester and Bartley. She lived in Dunnellon, Fl for 18 years before moving to Ledgewood  20 years ago.  She earned her B A in Education from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Magna-cum-laude and her Masters Degree in Education from Montclair State University. After 25 years she retired in 1988 as a Fourth Grade Teacher at the Lincoln School in Roxbury Township and was a member of the New Jersey Educator’s Association and was named teacher of the year in the 1980’s. She was a member of the Ledgewood Baptist Church, and previously a member of several Art Clubs in Dunnellon, FL.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband Willard “Bill” H Johnson and by her son Carl A (and wife Maura) Johnson of Washington (State) and daughter Cathleen Johnson of Ledgewood.  She also leaves her sister Joyce Wyckoff of Cape Cod, MA, 6 grandchildren; Dennis Jr., Stephanie, Scott, Jennifer, Michael, and Yon, and 6 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband Carl R Johnson in 1959 and second husband Joseph Hawkins in 1977.

Friends may visit the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main St., Succasunna, NJ (973-584-7264) davishepplewhitefh.com, on Wednesday from 3 – 5 & 7 – 9 pm. The service will be held on Thursday at 10 am at the Funeral Home, with the interment to follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Chester.
