Gwendolyn B Panula

Roxbury Township, Gwendolyn B Panula, 85, died on July 7, 2020 at the Morristown Medical Center. She was born in Manhattan and raised in Bronx, NY, moving to Succasunna in 1970. She was an active member of St Therese R C Church in Succasunna, serving as a Eucharistic Minister and a Catechist.  She cherished her role in preparing the 2nd Grade children to receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist.  She was honored to receive the Vivere Christus Award in 2014 for her many years of service to the Church.

She began her Nursing career at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, NY where she rose to the level of Asst. Director of Nursing.  After arriving to Succasunna, she worked in many of the area’s hospitals before finding her true calling as an educator when she accepted the job as Nursing Lab Coordinator at the County College of Morris in Randolph.  After 20 years of educating many of New Jersey’s RN’s, she retired to enjoy travelling with George and spending time with their children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and their families.

She was predeceased by her husband George, of 60 years, in 2019, and by her daughter Elizabeth Ann Panula in 2017. She is survived by her daughters; Kathleen (and Ronald Leo) Hockey of Albuquerque, N M and Gwendolyn Ann (and Lee Edward) Miller of Ledgewood, 4 grandchildren; Andrew Christopher Hockey, Peter Alexander Hockey, Kristin Lynn Miller, and Dillon Christopher Miller, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit at the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Succasunna, NJ  973-584-7264  (davishepplewhitefh.com) on Friday, from 7 – 9  pm.  The Funeral Liturgy will be held on Saturday, 10 am at St. Therese R C Church, with the interment to follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Chester.
