Summit, NJ Mr. Eugene J Schweitzer, Sr, 85, died peacefully on July 25, 2014 in Livingston, NJ.  He was born and raised in Newark, moved to Irvington in 1955, and has lived in Summit since 1973.  After graduating from West Side High in Newark, he worked for the city of Newark for several years.   He then became a Certified Shorthand Reporter and worked for the State of NJ for 39 years.  He retired in 1991 from his 14-year position as Supervisor of the Court Reporters of Essex County, NJ.

He is survived by his former spouse and lifelong friend Evelyn Litvany of Livingston, and 3 children: Dr. Eugene J, Jr. (and Jean) Schweitzer of Catonsville, MD, Susan Nigro of Bel Air, MD, and Pastor George (and Jacqui) Schweitzer of Colfax, WI.  He also leaves his 11 grandchildren: Nathaniel, Joseph (Laura), Andrew, Katie (Alejandro), Stephen, Matthew (Emily), Zak, Zoey, Christina, Gabrielle, and Veronica, and 2 great grandsons; Joshua and Caleb.

Friends may visit at the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Succasunna, NJ 973-584-7264 (davishepplewhitefh.com) on Friday, August 15, from 6 – 8 pm . The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 16^th, at 10 am, at Hillside Lutheran Brethren Church in Succasunna. The interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.
