Douglas B Spencer

Roxbury Township, Mr. Douglas Bruce Spencer, 71, died on February 21, 2017 at the Merry Heart Nursing Home. He was born in Montclair, and lived in Nutley where he graduated Nutley High School in 1963. He received his Bachelors Degree from Bucknell University in 1967, and went on to receive his Masters from NJIT in Computer Science in 1996. He moved to Washington DC area while in the service, and served in the U.S Army during the Viet Nam War. He then moved to Cedar Grove, and moved to Ledgewood in 1976. He was a math Teacher at Bloomfield High School, and then taught math at Hopatcong High School from 1985-2010, when he retired. He also was active in the Marching Band and Theater Production. He was an active member of the Hillside Lutheran Brethren Church, took part in Choir, was a Sunday School Superintendent, and served many other church ministries. He also was a camp counselor for teen week at Tuscarora (PA) and volunteered after retirement to maintain the camp.

He was Predeceased by his son Keith A. Spencer in 2015, and is survived by his wife Janet Clark (nee Lewis) Spencer of 46 years, son Jason (and Jillian) Spencer of Succasunna, and 3 grandchildren; Shane, Levi, and Ruby.

Friends may visit on Sunday 2 – 4 at the Hillside Church, 113 S. Hillside Ave, Succasunna. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday 10 am at the Hillside Church, with the Interment to follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Chester. Donations may be made in his name to the church.
