Cornelia Major, 84 of Mt. Arlington passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 6, surrounded by love after a courageous battle with heart disease.

Born into a close knit family, Cornelia was predeceased by her beloved parents, Anthony Edward Major Sr. and Virginia Manning Major of Green Pond, NJ, and her sister Selina Sieminski of Boyce, VA.  She is survived by her loving wife, Dawn Lucas, her step-daughter Kathryn Rauth of Chicago, IL, her younger brother Anthony Edward Major, Jr. and sister-in-law Deirdre Major of Manhasset, NY as well as many nieces and nephews whom she cherished deeply and who brought great joy to her life.

Cornelia enjoyed a distinguished career as a bank official with The Howard Bank, where she earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike through her professionalism, integrity and dedication.

Her faith in God was deep, constant and unwavering throughout her life.  It provided strength during difficult times, gratitude during joyful moments and a foundation for the kindness, grace and compassion that she extended to others.

Eighteen years ago, Cornelia found the love of her life, Dawn Lucas and they were married for ten and a half years.  Together they built a life filled with happiness, companionship and adventure.  They traveled to many beautiful places throughout the world, creating treasured memories that will forever endure.  Their home on the shores of Lake Hopatcong in Mt. Arlington, NJ was their sanctuary.  They especially treasured the peace and beauty of life on the water and the many many joyful times that they shared there.

Among Cornelia’s many passions was her love of automobiles.  She had a special appreciation for classic and vintage cars, particularly Rolls Royce and Mercedes-Benz automobiles.  She admired their elegance, craftsmanship and timeless design.  Cornelia also had a great love of Chris Craft wooden boats and enjoyed many years with her own “Ginger” on Green Pond.

Cornelia will be remembered for her strength, intelligence, warmth and devotion to those she loved.  She loved God and her family dearly and maintained close relationships with many nieces and nephews.  Her kindness, grace and generosity touched everyone who knew her.

Though she will be deeply missed, the love she shared, the faith she lived by and the memories she created will remain forever in the hearts of her family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 11 at 10 am, the West Point Cadet Chapel on the campus of the United States Military Academy in New York. Family and friends are invited to a repast luncheon following the service at the Hudson House River Inn, 2 Main Street, Cold Spring, NY 10516
